BECOMING A LEADER

Who are you? Being true to yourself makes your working life enjoyable and effortless.

Be aware of who you are and the person you aspire to be and consistently hold on to this person in every conversation you have and every decision you make. You will feel more confident, carry yourself with ease, and the people around you will see a self-assured leader who is in control.

Find out who you are

Our values dictate so many of our natural reactions and decisions. Knowing your values is something each person needs to think about for themselves to understand why we do the things we do. Evaluate the extent to which the following active values are important to you. There is no wrong answer here. Whatever feels right to you is who you truly are. For example, if you don’t feel compassion for others and don’t care about their lives, that’s ok. Be honest.

To what level (high, medium, low) can you be bothered with the following:

  • Compassion

  • Connection with others

  • Humility

  • Influence over others

  • Polite

  • Guilt

Become who you want to be

Once you’ve made your determination, think about why you answered how you did. There are many different influences in our lives and values begin in early childhood. Whilst this has shaped you up until now, values can shift based on your life experiences and new influences.

Is there something about yourself that you don’t like? Consider why you don’t like it and what you can do in your daily behaviours to make a change.

How do you want to be perceived aligning to the values you have and the values you want to have?

How will you emulate the person you want to be in everyday actions?
